Microsoft included a set of command line tools with their server operating systems to allow better and more productive management of the directory service. The DS Commands are these tools. The list of DS Commands is as follows:

  • DSQuery – allows the directory service to be searched for an object or all objects with like properties
  • DSMod – helps an administrator change properties for existing directory objects
  • DSrm – removes objects from the directory
  • DSAdd – allows administrators to add new directory objects
  • DSMove – allows objects to be moved from one Organizational Unit (OU) to another
